Happy Together - 1997 - Wong Kar Wai
Wong Kar Wai is such a distinctive film maker.
His films are gritty, showing Hong Kong at its most damp and mouldy.
“it turns out that lonely people are all the same”
It’s an interesting film, about two lovers who leave Hong Kong to explore South America, but end up sad and alone
Sadly, the quality of the print on the DVD is pretty appaling. The sound is muddy, and the picture quality is frequently awful.
To some extent this adds to the texture of the film, but mostly it left the film feeling bitty and confusing. The picture jumps from scene to scene destroying any feeling of continuity.
Saying that, I really like the trailer.
